Report on the activities of the Hungarian Hospice-Palliative Association

regarding the improvement of pediatric hospice care
16th March 2015

The Hungarian Hspice-Palliative Association started its activities to improve pediatric hospice care (Professional Coordination Forum)

Under the leadership of Dr. BENYÓ Gábor, leading experts of the Association and various representatives of the profession developed the Teschnical Minimum Requirements of pediatric hospice care. We updated the Hospice Care Guidelines and included pediatric care therein. A draft proposal was also submitted to the Secretariat of State for Healthcare at the Ministry of Human Capacities (MCH).

We proposed to include our suggestions regarding pediatric hospice care in a regulation.

The proposal included the development of the financing terms of institutional and home pediatric hospice care, the identification and expansion of inclusion diagnoses, the identification of the age limit (0-24), and the expansion of the duration of home care over 150 days.

On behalf of MCH Secretariat of State of Healthcare, Dr. BENEDA Attila organised coordination meetings on three occasions (14th May 2014, 14th November 2014, 10th March 2015), with an extended list of participants, with experts representing the Ministry, the National Public Health and Medical Offer Service (OTH), the National Health Insurance Fund (OEP) and our Association. We provided insight based on international guidelines and the written summary of best practices and experience of our member institutions (namely, Tábitha-house and Fogd a Kezem (Hold My Hand) programme) performing pioneering and outstanding work in the field of pediatric hospice care. We also represented the improvement of quality pediatric hospice care.

During these coordination meetings the positive attitude and goodwill of the Parties envisions the implementation of quality pediatric hospice care in the near future.
